The Painted Lady Project
High on a hilltop at the start of the Port au Port Peninsula, Newfoundland, stands a magnificent historic building. The Our Lady of Mercy Church is like a Grand Duchess on the skyline.
She is 115’ at her highest point, and almost 99 years old. She awes us with her grace and her beauty. The coastal climate has left her a little worn and weathered, but her bones are good!
This awe-inspiring building, once a Catholic Church, was built by a community of fishermen, farmers, and miners. The heritage site is the heart of the community. Families here can tell you stories of their connection for generations past.
As she approaches her 100th birthday we are striving to complete minor repairs and paint to restore her to her former glory!

Le Painted Lady Project
Au sommet d’une colline, à l’entrée de la péninsule de Port au Port, en Terre-Neuve, se tient un magnifique bâtiment historique. L’Église Notre-Dame de la Pitié (Our Lady of Mercy Church) se tient dans l’horizon avec l’élégance d’une grande-duchesse.
Son point le plus haut culmine à 35 m, et elle est quasi centenaire. Elle nous émerveille par sa grâce et sa beauté. Le climat côtier a légèrement altéré et patiné son apparence, mais ses fondations restent solides!
Ce bâtiment qui provoque l’émerveillement, autrefois une église catholique, a été construit par une communauté de pêcheurs, fermiers et mineurs. Le site patrimonial représente le cœur de la communauté. Ici, les familles pourront vous raconter l’histoire de leurs liens avec les générations précédentes.
À l’approche de son centième anniversaire, nous souhaitons y effectuer quelques menus travaux et la repeindre avant de lui rendre sa gloire d’antan!
